Job Description:

The VA Multi-Specialty Outpatient Clinic, located in Daytona Beach, Florida, is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist who is preferably Board Certified or Board Eligible. Psychiatrist will evaluate, diagnose, treat, provide consultation and perform history and physical examinations to adult patients presenting with mental, behavioral, addictive or emotional disorders, utilizing all forms of psychological and social treatment including medications. Privileges include providing consultation with physicians in other fields regarding mental, behavioral or emotional disorders, pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, family therapy, behavior modification, consultation to the courts, and emergency psychiatry as well as the ordering of diagnostic, laboratory tests, and prescribe medications. Duties will include but are not limited to: Treatment and professional duties as outlined in the incumbent's clinical privileges, as noted in our credentialing process; some of which are listed below: Initial Psychiatric Evaluation of veterans to establish diagnosis and management plan, to develop a treatment plan including medication management, ordering of pertinent laboratory and radiology tests, and disposition of these patients. Enter all diagnostic and treatment information, and related reports into the computerized patient record system (CPRS) on the day of the visit. Documentation of health care provided, including all physician orders, must satisfy Department of Veteran Affairs and local VAMC policies/procedures, as well as meet external accreditation agency requirements for safe delivery of patient care. The physician must possess computer skills to access the CPRS as utilized by the VAMC. Prescribe medications for patients according to the established drug formulary at this facility. Variance form the formulary should occur only when clinically indicated and in compliance with the procedures established. Work Schedule: Flexible work schedule will be considered along with traditional work schedule (Monday-Friday 8-4:30). Schedule will include coverage of the Saturday morning outpatient MH clinic. Telework: Not authorized Financial Discloser Report: Not required Functional Statement: Physician Psychiatrist The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando, including the Lake Non campus. The selectee may also be required to work various shift on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Medical Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Board Certification (highly preferred). Board certified or eligible If board eligible, providers must demonstrate significant accomplishments in clinical practice, educational activities, research or administration which clearly distinguish them as having the highest professional qualifications in the specialty area to which assigned. Physical Standards . Must pass a pre-employment examination. See below for additional information. English Language Proficiency . Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Preferred Experience: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is desired. If selected for this position, per VHA Directive 1177, you must possess current BCLS certification as you will provide direct clinical care to patients in this position. Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry. Strong clinical background with ability to work without clinical supervision. Strong clinical background in diagnosis of psychiatric disorder and psychopharmacological treatment as well as familiarity with other treatments modalities to order appropriate non-pharmacological treatments. Ability to type and utilize electronic medical records systems Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary treatment team approach. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G2., Physicians Qualifications Standards Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; light carrying (under 15 pounds); reaching above the shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking 6 hours; standing 6 hours; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability; sitting 8 hours.
