Job Description:

Job Description

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), Daytona Beach, Florida, invites candidates interested in cybersecurity applied to aerospace and aviation systems to apply for a faculty position at the rank of assistant professor to start in August 2021.

Our future colleague will share our university's and department's commitments to an inclusive, inviting, and collaborative community practicing excellence in both research and instruction. We strongly encourage individuals from populations historically marginalized underrepresented, and underserved in engineering and computing - women, members of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, persons with disabilities - to apply.

The successful candidates will teach cybersecurity courses and perform research in aerospace/aviation cybersecurity. They will have the opportunity to join one or more of the university's research centers, including the recently created Center for Aerospace Resilience (CAR), CyBASE (Cybersecurity and Assured Systems Engineering), NEAR (Next-Generation Embry-Riddle Applied Research), ASSURE (FAA Center of Excellence in Unmanned Aircraft Systems), TTHP (FAA Center of Excellence for Technical Training and Human Performance), and the Eagle Flight Research Center. Research facilities at Embry-Riddle include well-equipped cross-disciplinary laboratories in the John Mica Aerospace and Engineering Innovation Complex (the MicaPlex). Current research within the department includes security for avionics, ground-air satellite links, and autonomous systems, anonymization of UAV data, simulation for air traffic control training, AI for UAV decision making, and development of an aviation scenario language. Other research includes hybrid-electric aircraft power systems, wireless avionics, additive manufacturing of waveguides and antennas, and underwater communications. The department is home to an NSF RED (Revolutionizing Engineering Departments) grant exploring Agile frameworks in academia, with the goal of making our department more responsive to student, industry, and societal needs.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in computer science or related field, have an outstanding research record, and be committed to teaching excellence, employing inclusive and evidence-based approaches. Experience in aerospace, aviation, defense, software development, and related industries is valued. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

Application: Please supply an application letter, CV, statement summarizing research, pedagogical, and professional goals, and contact information for three professional references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The EECS department has 20 faculty members and 370 students. It offers the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science; M.S. degrees in cybersecurity engineering, electrical and computer engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, and unmanned and autonomous systems engineering; and B.S. degrees in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and software engineering. The College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach has 100 faculty members plus research staff and enrolls nearly 2800 students. In addition to EECS programs, the College offers bachelor's and master's degrees in aerospace engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering, and doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering.
